Missions and Our Missionaries
Steve Irons, chairman of our missions committee, has developed two new pages here on the Christ Reformed blog.
The new resource is entitled "Missions and Our Missionaries" and includes two sections.
- One is a journal with the latest news from our missionaries and from the missions committee (http://www.christreformed.org/mission-news/).
- The other is a series of links to all those missions we currently support (http://www.christreformed.org/links-to-our-missionaries/).
Be sure to stop and look through this great resource! (Scroll down the right sidebar.) And be sure to pray for our missionaries!
Young Musician's Foundation "Debut Orchestra"

The Debut Orchestra is the second–oldest pre–professional training orchestra in the country and is comprised of 71 of Los Angeles’ most talented 15–25 year–old musicians. The orchestra’s rich history includes more than 41 world premieres, including works by such renowned composers as Igor Stravinsky, Ingolf Dahl, and Michael Torke. The orchestra adheres to a professional rehearsal schedule and performs the full range of orchestra literature, from Baroque to 21st– Century, including works for both chamber and full orchestra. For more than 50 consecutive seasons, the orchestra has performed admission free concerts for the public in professional venues throughout Los Angeles, with audiences totaling more than 5,000 annually.
Musicians are selected each year through blind auditions adjudicated by members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and other eminent, Los Angeles–based musicians. Orchestra members receive a scholarship to support their studies. The thousands of Debut alumni in orchestras around the world illustrate the importance and success of the training they receive.

Former Christ Reformed Member Makes the News!

You can read it here: http://www.forbes.com/2009/09/08/health-care-debate-reform-polls-opinions-contributors-speech.html
After completing his Ph.D. at Yale, Ben became U.S. assistant secretary of health and human services, and now teaches at the University of Texas and advises health investors.
Friends in Mammoth Lakes California
Several Christ Reformed families took a well deserved vacation among the mountains in Mammoth Lakes California the week of August 9th. They were joined by several others who drove up to get together for a hike into the wilderness. There was great food, fellowship and of course fantastic stargazing during the Perseids meteor shower.

At 6am on August 14th seven men started from Agnew Meadow along the Pacific Crest Trail toward Thousand Island Lake and then via the John Muir Trail back to their start point, for 17 miles of beautiful vistas and lakes and 3,000 feet of climbing.
While out of the trail they may not have found themselves, but they did find plenty of mosquitoes and blisters.
