Sunday School: The Church

Ecclesiology: I Believe in One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church

April 8 through May 27, 2007  (Rev. Marcelo Souza)

churches 6.jpg This eight-week class will address issues related to the Church – its marks, mission, nurture, gifts, government, structure, relation to the State, and more. What is the Church? How is it to glorify God? What distinctions need to be made, and what distortions should be corrected? What is its primary function – nurture or evangelism? We will use Edmund P. Clowney’s The Church as a textbook, as well as the Three Forms of Unity and the Westminster Standards.

Christianity-Explored.jpgDuring this class we will also discuss "Christianity Explored." Be sure to come and find out about a wonderful opportunity for evangelism as you invite family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc., to explore the Gospel of Mark asking three questions:

  1. Who is Jesus
  2. Why did He come?
  3. What does it mean to follow Him?

Within the context of a class on the nature of the Church, we will investigate the different possibilities of using Christianity Explored in our congregation.

See you next week!

Sunday School Class: Prayer

Prayer.jpgThe audio files for our last class (3-11) have been uploaded. Click here to listen, and here to download. Next week we will finish chapter 7 and hopefully cover most of chapter 8. Bring your Book of Common Prayer, your Heidelberg Catechism, and your Bible.

Our next class will be on the Church. We will use primarily Ed Clowney's book The Church, as well as other resources we will announce later. This might be a good time to buy the book and start looking through it.

See you on the Lord's Day at 9:00 sharp.

ALMIGHTY God, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplications unto thee; and dost promise that when two or three are gathered together in thy Name thou wilt grant their requests: Fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of thy servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.

(A Prayer of St. Chrysostom - Book of Common Prayer)
